Co-operatives have a long history of serving members in Western Canada. In the early 20th century, people worked together to create retail co-operatives in many towns in the four western Canadian provinces (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia).

Wild Rose Co-op was incorporated on November 1, 2007 as the result of the merger of the Camrose Co-op (1972) and the Sedgewick Co-op (1947).  Camrose Co-op took over the assets of the Killam Co-op in 1988.  Killam Co-op was one of the founding Co-operatives of the Alberta Co-operative Wholesale  - the precursor to Federated Co-operatives Ltd. and one of the first co-operatives formed in Alberta in the early 1900's.
